Which architecture?

• amd64 is for a desktop or laptop computer built around 2005 and later.While the name may suggest otherwise, this supports both AMD and Intel processorscapable of 64-bit instructions, BIOS and UEFI motherboardsas well as PC/Mac computers.

• i386 has been discontinued and will no longer receive updates after April 2021.This one runs on any 32-bit PC or Intel Mac.

• armhf is for the Raspberry Pi and other compatible microcomputers.This one is 32-bit, but is recommended.

Ubuntu Server 20.04.1 LTS. The version of Ubuntu with long term support, until April 2025. Download 32-bit for Raspberry Pi 2. Download 64-bit for Raspberry Pi 3. The Raspberry Pi 2 only supports 32 bits, so that's an easy choice. However the Raspberry Pi 3 and 4 are 64 bit boards. According to the Raspberry Pi foundation. Get Ubuntu Server one of three ways; by using Multipass on your desktop, using MAAS to provision machines in your data centre or installing it directly on a server. If you got at least 2GB of RAM I highly suggest to go for the 64 bit installation. In theory it is faster than the 32 bit version. If you have 4GB or more than it is actually required to use all the available memory. In the past there were some problems with 64 bit Ubuntu, mainly because lots of applications didn't support 64 bit yet.

Which release?

• Choose an LTS (Long Term Release) if you prefer stability. These are supported for3 years with a new upgrade available every 2 years.

• Choose a non-LTS (interim) release if you like the latest features.These are released more frequently (every 6 months) but are only supported for9 months.

Both releases equally receive security updates provided by the Ubuntu team.You may upgrade from an LTS to a non-LTS releases by changing your preferences inthe Software & Updates application.

Which download method?

BitTorrent
